Being Good to Your Mind + Body

Getting ready for bed has quickly become one of my favorite rituals of self-care.

It is my time to really slow down, pamper myself, and let the calm settle in for what will hopefully be a good night’s sleep. 

My routine shifts with my body’s needs, as well as with my cycle. However, the foundation remains the same with cleansing, moisturizing, and stretching.

I usually shower, moisturize my face with an oil, and then the rest of my body with my favorite lotion by Eucerin. If I showered earlier, then I at least always wash and moisturize my face before bed.

A couple of times a week, I add in a scrub before shaving, and to slough off dead skin. I’ve also recently heard that exfoliating gloves are great for this, too, so I will be trying that! 


What I find most relaxing and beneficial about this routine is that once I started doing it for a few days, and then a week, a month, and so on, I realized how much better I feel in my skin.

And that it’s something I deserve. 

Once I’m all clean and my skin is pampered, I do some soft yoga stretches. Or if I’m suffering from sore muscles or anxiety, I will switch to laying on my acupressure mat. I got this one on Amazon and I love it. It takes a little getting used to, but I always sleep better after using it.

Either way, after my whole routine, I feel good and ready for bed. And though it sounds like a lot, I’ve gotten my whole me-time down to about an hour. Sometimes a little less or a little more depending on how I’m feeling.

Lastly, I have a satin pillowcase that is great for skin and hair, as it allows both to glide freely without pulling, snagging, or tugging at either throughout the night. 

Best of all, when I do my routine, my daughter is already asleep, so that feels comforting, too. I have time, quiet time, to focus on my inner and outer wellness.

I realize that it’s not always easy to create these sorts of routines, or to think that you are deserving of the time. But even if it’s one night a week that you take a little extra time for you, do it! It’s worth it and can make a big difference in your attitude.

I think it’s a great idea to treat yourself. You will never regret being good to your mind and body.
