Charcoal masks are so fun! I like to put a mask on and make funny videos and send them to my friends! It’s like when you get an unexpected card or gift in the mail. Surprise video text! You should try it—just sayin’!
Anyway, for this challenge, I tried the charcoal mask by Shea Moisture. I chose this one because I already love this brand for hair and body care. I also like that it is fair trade, cruelty free, ethically traded, and sustainably-sourced!
What I find cool about this mask is that you put it on 5 to 10 minutes before bed and it does all the work overnight.
And it doesn’t rub off on your pillow or sheets! Very important.
I purchased this mask packet from Ulta. The mask cost me less than $4! And there were several brands with charcoal products that were reasonably priced; looks like I will be back to try more.
This trend isn’t totally new to me. I have charcoal toothpaste also. I like the clean feel and the whitening ability. I will say, the downside is the mess in the sink, but it’s not horrible.
When I rinsed this mask off in the morning, my face felt smooth and hydrated. I will definitely use this again since I have blemish-prone skin, which this particular mask is geared towards helping. I think weekly use of this mask in combination with washing my face regularly would be beneficial in helping me fight off breakouts.
So, the verdict: I say give it a try and see what you think!
For me, the biggest thing to look at were the ingredients used. I do not like to put things in my body or on my skin unless it’s (practically) safe enough to use on a child. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. I am not saying use this on your children; I am saying the ingredients are not toxic and are gentle, which is good for me.
